Points selection on a 3D Surface series

Hello,
I would appreciate if you could guide me how to select sample points from a 3D Surface series. I would like to mouse over the chart and select points by mouse clicks.
There is an example from the .net forum that uses SurfaceNearestTool to interact with a Surface series (never mind the cross drawing in the example).

The SurfaceNearestTool doesn't seem to be implemented in the Java version, but is there any similar functionality i could use?
I am using the SWT version of 3.2014.0519 release
